FTP Layerとパーミッションの設定について

Joomla 1.5インストール時に、FTP Layerの設定なるものがあります。これは何だろうと、Joomla Forumを検索してみたところ、以下のように書いてありました。

This allows file operations (such installing extensions or updating the main configuration) without having to make all the folders and files writeable. This makes the site admin's life a lot easier and increases security of the site

You can check the write status of relevent folders by going to ''Help->System Info" and then in the sub-menu to "Directory Permissions". With FTP even if all directories are red, Joomla! will operate smoothly.

NOTE: the FTP layer is not required on a Windows host.

つまり、エクステンションの新規インストール時や、メインファイルの更新時に、ファイルやフォルダのパーミッションを自動で「Writable(書き込み可)」に設定してくれるということです。

私は最初FTP layerの設定をオフにしていましたが、オフ状態の場合に、テンプレートのCSSファイルを編集して保存すると、ファイルが「書き込み不可」となってしまいました。FTP Layerをオンにすることで、パーミッションがそのままの状態で保存それるようになりました。

Windowsサーバでは必要ないということですが、ほとんどのサーバはWindows以外のような気がしますので、この設定はしておいた方が良いかもしれません。

FTP Layerの設定は、Joomla 1.5インストール時に決定しますが、インストール完了後も、グローバルコンフィグから設定することができます。
